Overall Reflection Statement for Communication

For my competence in communication, I am submitting transcripts of conversations on Need Him Global (NHG), a Sermon I preached, a written sermon, and my Conversion Story which demonstrate my ability to persuade others with respect to biblical and theological truth through oral, written, and electronic media.

My service with NeedHim.org afforded me with an excellent opportunity to make the most of my communication skills and to learn a lot from the people I interacted with. In my service position, I chatted online with people, sharing the gospel and providing biblical counsel on a daily basis. This involved people from all kinds of backgrounds, ages, cultures, religious ideologies and so on. Regarding training in communication, it is one of the best opportunities I have ever had.

Artifacts With Descriptions

1. These are some of the sermons I preached in class at Dallas Theological Seminary. They demonstrate my communication ability.

2. This is a transcript of a communication with a seeker over the Need Him Global (NHG) Platform. In total, I communicated with over 400 people personally while I was an intern at NHG.

Learning Reflection

As I developed and demonstrated communication,  I have learned that people are different and view the world based on their upbringing, where they grew up, even ethnicity. I learned that most people are willing to stay in a conversation if they feel that someone is listening to them. This means that for me to be a successful communicator, I need to listen more and speak less, especially when I attempt to share the gospel with people who have biases towards Christians. I learned that it is very important to be clear when I communicate in order for me to be heard and understood. Most misunderstandings in communication arise from being unclear in what we say and how we say it.

Lifelong Development Statement

As a result of the experiences documented by these artifacts, I will continue to develop in communication by listening to experienced preachers in order to how to be a better communicator. I will also make it a habit to always write down my sermons in order to coordinate my thoughts and grow in sermon delivery and effective communication. I will continue to develop my communication skills by learning to grow in self-confidence. By growing in my knowledge of the Word of God, I will become more confident in handling it and sharing it with others.
